Another Split For The Wild In Penultimate Regular Season Weekend

The Winnipeg Wild played in their second last regular season weekend set of games, in which they split both results. The Wild won their final regular season home game on Friday against the Norman Northstars 6-3, then dropped their final matchup against the Kenora Thistles on Sunday 6-3.

Friday’s matchup against the Northstars started out very strong. Inside the first six minutes of the game, both Gino Cotroneo and Luca Pura had scored for the Wild giving them an early 2-0 advantage. In a five goal second period, the Northstars continuously cut the Wild lead in half, but the team kept answering with goals of their own. The middle frame ended with the Wild leading the Northstars 5-2. Each team added to their totals in the third, but the Wild did a great job of making sure they controlled the final period of play. A great showing from the Winnipeg Wild saw them win their final home game till the playoffs 6-3.

The Wild got a rest day on Saturday and traveled to Kenora, Ontario for a Sunday afternoon matchup against the Thistles. The Winnipeg Wild opened the scoring with five minutes left in the first period with a goal from Wyatt Dyck. After the opening goal, the Thistles scored six unanswered goals between the second and third periods to take the game by the horns. In the final five minutes of the third period, the Wild scored two consolation goals, but fell to Kenora 6-3.

The Winnipeg Wild will play their final two regular season games on the road Saturday February 24th and Sunday February 25th against the Winnipeg Thrashers and Brandon Wheat Kings respectively.
